Considering Gratitude and Tweeting with Tanzania

Tonight I had to consider gratitude as I joined a call for fellow organizers of the TweetsGiving events across the world.

This is Wikipedia’s definition:

Gratitude, thankfulness, or appreciation is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive.

As I listened to Stacey Monk (@staceymonk) speak about what inspired her to start Epic Change back in 2007, her words, her broken voice, and the tears in her eyes showed me what gratitude is all about. It is about being passionate about a cause, about a person, about helping others less fortunate than ourselves. It is being thankful for what we have been blessed with, regardless how big or small.

I felt challenged to write a gratitude list the other day on Facebook, as my co-organizer, Leah, had written one to help promote our event. I’ve got to say, it was really hard for me! I mean, I’m grateful and all, but specifically calling out what I’m thankful for was tough! I hope it is easier for you to express what you are grateful for. Today? I’m grateful that the sun was shining!

Please join me at the Virginia Beach TweetsGiving event on Tuesday 11/24 from 6pm – 9pm at Gordon Biersch in Virgina Beach Town Center. Tickets are only $10 and all the money goes to Epic Change.

Oh – and you can follow the kids from the school that is financially supported by @EpicChange@shepherdsjr on Twitter. This account RTs students at Shepherds Junior School in Arusha, Tanzania. Don’t you love Social Media? 😀

THESE are the kids you will be helping! And for that, I am GRATEFUL!
